Pharmacology
Inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
Dosage & Administration
- 5-20 mg/day for pediatric patients
- 40 mg once daily for very high cholesterol and high risk of MI or stroke
- 20 mg once daily for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Initiation with 5 mg once daily for Asian patients
- Dose limitations with specific drug combinations
- Dosage adjustment for severe renal impairment
Interaction
- Cyclosporine combination
- Gemfibrosil combination
- Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir combination
- Coumarin anticoagulants combination
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies risk
