Indications
- Primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
- Hypertriglyceredemia
- Primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Atherosclerosis progression
- Pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Risk reduction of Myocardial Infarction (MI), stroke and arterial revascularization procedures
Pharmacology
- Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors
- Inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL and LDL particles
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose range 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose 20 mg/day
- Initiation of therapy with 5 mg once daily for Asian patients
- Dosing for patients with severe renal impairment
Interaction
- Cyclosporine combination increases exposure
- Gemfibrosil combination should be limited to 10 mg once daily
- Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir combination increases exposure
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies may increase risk of skeletal muscle effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to product components
- Liver disease
- Pregnant women and women who may become pregnant
- Nursing mothers

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Administered to women of childbearing age with caution
- Discontinue therapy if patient becomes pregnant
- Unknown excretion in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Risk of myopathy increased with concurrent administration of some lipid-lowering therapies

- No specific treatment in the event of overdose
- Symptomatic treatment and supportive measures instituted as required
