Description
- Rosuvastatin is indicated for reducing elevated total-C, LDL-C, ApoB, non HDL-C and TG levels and increasing HDL-C
- It is also used for slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and arterial revascularization procedures
Dosage
- Usual dose range is 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose is 20 mg/day
- Dosage for pediatric patients 10 to 17 years of age is individualized according to the recommended goal of therapy
Pharmacology
- Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- It increases the number of hepatic LDL receptors and inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL
Interaction
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapy with Niacin or Fenofibrate enhances the risk of skeletal muscle effects
Contraindications
- Patients with known hypersensitivity to product components
- Patients with liver disease
- Pregnant and nursing women
Side effects
- Frequent adverse events include headache, myalgia, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain, and nausea
Precautions warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Therapy should be discontinued if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur

Indications
- Primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
- Hypertriglyceredemia
- Type III hyperlipoproteinemia

- Risk reduction of myocardial infarction, stroke, and arterial revascularization procedures
Pregnancy lactation
- Should be administered to women of childbearing age only when highly unlikely to conceive
- If patient becomes pregnant while taking this drug, therapy should be discontinued immediately
Dosage administration
- Adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more
- Initiation of therapy with 5 mg once daily should be considered for Asian patients
Overdose effects
- No specific treatment in the event of overdose
- Symptomatic and supportive measures should be instituted as required
