Indications

  • Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
  • Symptomatic treatment of Urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibition of degranulation of mast cells
  • Inhibition of release of cytokines

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose for adults and adolescents: 10 mg once a day
  • Children aged 2 to 11 years: Dosage based on weight

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration with ketoconazole or erythromycin increases systemic exposure
  • Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
  • Avoid simultaneous intake with grapefruit or grapefruit juice

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any excipients

Side Effects

  • Common: Asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Uncommon: Appetite increased, arthralgia, back pain, concentration impaired, constipation, cough, diarrhea, dry throat, epistaxis, fever

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No clinical data on exposure during pregnancy
  • Not recommended during lactation unless potential benefits outweigh risks

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
  • Caution in elderly patients
  • Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function

Use in Special Populations

  • Caution in elderly patients
  • Safety and efficacy not established in children under 12 years
  • Not recommended in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency

Overdose Effects

  • Most common adverse reaction is somnolence
  • Symptomatic treatment and supportive measures for accidental ingestion of very high doses
