Description

  • Agoxin is indicated for heart failure, atrial fibrillation with uncontrolled ventricular rate, acute left ventricular failure, chronic left ventricular failure, and congestive heart failure.

Pharmacology

  • Cardiac glycoside
  • Positive inotropic activity
  • Reduction in heart conductivity
  • Direct action on vascular smooth muscle

Dosage & Administration

  • Rapid digitalization: 1-1.5 mg in divided doses over 24 hours
  • Less urgent digitalization: 250-500 micrograms daily
  • Maintenance: 62.5-500 micrograms daily
  • Usual range: 125-250 micrograms daily
  • Usual range for elderly: 125-250 micrograms daily
