Description
Centoxin is indicated in heart failure, atrial fibrillation with an uncontrolled ventricular rate, acute left ventricular failure, chronic left ventricular failure, and congestive heart failure caused by hypertensive valvular or ischaemic heart disease. It is a cardiac glycoside used in the management of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. The principal actions of digoxin are an increase in the force of myocardial contraction and a reduction in the conductivity of the heart. It is administered orally, and the dosage varies based on the urgency and individual patient factors. Centoxin has interactions with various medications and contraindications in cases of ventricular fibrillation and hypersensitivity to digoxin or other digitalis preparations. Side effects may include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, visual disturbance, fatigue, confusion, arrhythmia, and others. It can be used in pregnancy and excreted in breast milk at low concentrations. It can be used in neonates, children, and the elderly, with the latter requiring a lower maintenance dose. Centoxin belongs to the therapeutic class of Positive Inotropic drugs and should be stored in a cool and dry place, out of the reach of children.
