Mode of Action
- Anti-epileptic activity against a variety of seizures
- Increases brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Syrup given in divided doses
- Tablets may be given once or twice daily
- Injection for adults and children
- Dosing based on body weight
- Slow intravenous injection over 3-5 minutes
- Continuous or repeated infusion
Interaction
- Non-specific inhibitor of drug metabolism
- Significant interaction with Phenobarbital, Phenytoin, Warfarin, Aspirin
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug
- Liver dysfunction
- Restricted use during pregnancy
- Restricted use in women of childbearing potential

- Assessment of bleeding potential

- Partial elimination in the urine as a ketone metabolite
- Avoid sudden withdrawal of therapy
