Indications
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection
- Efficacy in subjects with HCV genotype 1, 2, 3, or 4 infection
- Treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma meeting Milan criteria
- Treatment of patients with HCV/HIV-1 co-infection
Pharmacology
- Nucleotide analog inhibitor
- Inhibits HCV NS5B (non-structural protein 5B) RNA-dependent RNA polymerase
- Acts as a chain terminator in HCV RNA replication
Dosage & Administration
- One 400 mg tablet taken once daily
- Recommended combination therapy for different genotypes
- Consideration for patients with severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease
Interaction
- Reduced therapeutic effect with potent P-gp inducers
- Risk of serious symptomatic bradycardia when co-administered with amiodarone
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in pregnant women or men whose female partners are pregnant
- Combination therapy contraindicated in certain conditions
Side Effects
- Common adverse events such as fatigue, headache, nausea, anemia, pruritus, insomnia, etc.
