Indications

Pharmacology
- Selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor
- Increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells
- Causes smooth muscle relaxation
- Increases blood flow into the corpus cavernosum
- Presence in smooth muscles of the prostate and bladder wall
- Improves blood flow to the urinary tract
- Widens the opening of the bladder neck
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended starting dose for Erectile Dysfunction: 10 mg
- Recommended dose for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: 5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for Combined Erectile Dysfunction and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: 5 mg once daily
- Maximum dosing frequency: once daily
- Effective for up to 36 hours

Contraindications

Side Effects

- Rare side effects: Change in Color Vision, Sudden vision loss, Hearing loss, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Exfoliative dermatitis, Angina, Stroke, Myocardial infarction, Severe hypotension, Tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Tadalafil assigned to pregnancy category B by USFDA
- Recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk
- No data on excretion of Tadalafil in human milk
- Caution should be used when administering tadalafil to nursing women
