Indications
- Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
- Reduction in the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH
Pharmacology
- Alpha<sub>1A</sub>-adrenoreceptors antagonist
- Dual 5 alpha reductase inhibitor (5ARI)
- Inhibition of alpha<sub>1</sub>-adrenoreceptors in the stromal prostatic smooth muscle and bladder neck
- Reduction in prostate volume by inhibiting the conversion of Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg & Dutasteride 0.5 mg
- Oral administration approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day
- Swallow whole, not chewed or opened
Interaction
- No formal drug interaction studies for Dutasteride-Tamsulosin combination
- Metabolism primarily catalyzed by CYP3A4 and CYP3A5
- Possible increase in Dutasteride serum concentrations when used with CYP3A4 and/or P-glycoprotein-inhibitors
