Indications

  • Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Reduction in the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH

Pharmacology

  • Alpha<sub>1A</sub>-adrenoreceptors antagonist
  • Dual 5 alpha reductase inhibitor (5ARI)
  • Inhibition of alpha<sub>1</sub>-adrenoreceptors in the stromal prostatic smooth muscle and bladder neck
  • Reduction in prostate volume by inhibiting the conversion of Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose: Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg & Dutasteride 0.5 mg
  • Oral administration approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day
  • Swallow whole, not chewed or opened

Interaction

  • No formal drug interaction studies for Dutasteride-Tamsulosin combination
  • Metabolism primarily catalyzed by CYP3A4 and CYP3A5
  • Possible increase in Dutasteride serum concentrations when used with CYP3A4 and/or P-glycoprotein-inhibitors

Contraindications

  • Contra-indicated in women, children, adolescents, and patients with hypersensitivity to active ingredients or excipients
