  • Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus with documented target organ damage

Pharmacology

Non-peptide angiotensin-ll receptor antagonist

ModeOfAction

  • Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone secreting effects of angiotensin-ll
  • Selective blocking of the binding of angiotensin-ll to the AT1 receptor

Dosage&Administration

  • StartingDose: 40 mg once a day
  • Response: Dose-related over the range of 20 to 80 mg

Interaction

  • Increased risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive effect with NSAIDS
  • Co-administration with aliskiren in patients with diabetes should be avoided
