Indications
- Reduces muscle spasm of the intestine, biliary system, bladder, and uterus
- Used in symptomatic treatment of pain related to functional disorders of the digestive tract and biliary system
- Indicated for the treatment of spasm and pain in urological and gynaecological diseases
Pharmacology
- Tiemonium Methylsulphate is a competitive antagonist of Acetylcholine and Histamine
- Strengthens calcium bond with membrane phospholipids and proteins
- Inhibits intracellular contractile protein of visceral cells, causing inhibition of visceral spasm and pain
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose for adults is 2-6 tablets or 3-9 teaspoonfuls syrup daily in divided doses
- Children's dose: 3 ml/kg or 6 mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses
- Injection: 1 Tiemonium Methylsulphate Injection 3 times daily through Intravenous or Intramuscular route
- Suppository: 20 mg Tiemonium Methylsulphate suppository two or three times daily through rectal route
Interaction
- Should not be used with other drugs without prior consultation with a registered physician to avoid possible drug interaction
Contraindications
- Not to be used in urethroprostatic disorder involving a risk of urine retention
- Contraindicated in patients at risk of angle closure glaucoma
Side Effects
- Risk of hypotension and tachycardia in certain individuals
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Results of animal studies did not reveal teratogenic effects
- No deformities reported with normal use
- Prudence advised for nursing mothers due to lack of sufficient data
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised during treatment of patients with prostate disorders
- Caution advised in cases of chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, ambient hyperthermia, renal & hepatic insufficiency
- Risks of visual disturbances may affect driving or use of machines
