Indications
- Treatment of elevated intraocular pressure
- Indicated for ocular hypertension
- Indicated for open-angle glaucoma
Pharmacology
- Non-selective β-adrenergic receptor blocker
- Reduction of aqueous humour formation
- Lowers blood pressure
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 0.25% solution bid
- May increase to 0.5% solution bid if inadequate response
- Decrease to 0.5% solution once daily if controlled
- Do not exceed 0.5% solution bid
- Gel-forming eye drops: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily
Interaction
- Potential interaction with epinephrine
- Interactions with beta-adrenergic blocking agents
- Interactions with calcium antagonists
- Interactions with catecholamine-depleting drugs
Contraindications
- Patients with bronchial asthma
- Patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Patients with sinus bradycardia
- Patients with second or third degree atrioventricular block
- Patients with overt cardiac failure
