Indications
- Moderate to severe painful conditions
- Postoperative pain
- Colic and spastic pain

Pharmacology
- Centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound
- Inhibition of neurotransmitter reuptake
- Activation of serotonergic and noradrenergic pathways
- Stimulation of mu-opioid receptors
- Modulation of central monoaminergic inhibitory pathways
Dosage & Administration
- Usual doses of 50 to 100 mg every four to six hours
- Initial dose of 100 mg for acute pain
- Initial dose of 50 mg for chronic painful conditions
- Maximum total daily dosage of 400 mg
- Sustained release capsule or tablet every 12 hours
- Injection dose of 50-100 mg every 4 to 6 hours
- Suppository dose of 100 mg Tramadol Hydrochloride 6 hourly
- Rectal administration for suppository
Interaction
- Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors
- Caution when co-administered with carbamazepine

Precautions & Warnings
- Respiratory depression risk
- Not recommended for opioid-dependent patients
- Caution when co-administered with CNS depressants
- Caution with MAO inhibitors
- Use with caution in patients with increased intracranial pressure, head injury, or acute abdominal conditions
Use in Special Populations
- Dosing in children from the age of 1 year
- Suppository not recommended in children and adolescents below the age of 14 years
- Not studied in children, safety and efficacy not established
