Dosage & Administration
- Initial dosage for hypertension: 12.5 mg once daily
- Usual dosage for hypertension: 25 mg once daily

- Recommended dosage for angina pectoris: 25 mg twice daily
- Maximum dosage for angina pectoris: 50 mg daily
- Initial dosage for heart failure: 3.125 mg twice daily
- Usual dosage for heart failure: 6.25-25 mg twice daily
- Maximum dosage for heart failure: 25-50 mg twice daily
Interaction
- Increased levels of digoxin when taken with Cardex
- Decrease in Cmax and AUC with Rifampin
- No alteration in plasma protein binding of warfarin with Cardex
- Beta-receptor antagonists potentiate the pressor reaction of clonidine
Contraindications
- Decompensated heart failure requiring intravenous inotropic therapy
- Bronchial asthma or related bronchospastic conditions
- Second or third-degree AV block
- Sick sinus syndrome without a permanent pacemaker
- Cardiogenic shock
- Severe bradycardia
