Indications
- Used before surgery to treat symptoms of uterine fibroids in adult women
Pharmacology
- Selective progesterone receptor modulator
- Blocks progesterone receptor to reduce fibroid growth
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet (5 mg) a day for up to three months
- Start treatment during the first week of the menstrual cycle
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Genital bleeding of unknown aetiology
- Uterine, cervical, ovarian or breast cancer
Side Effects
- Endometrial thickening
- Hot flush
- Headache
- Uterine haemorrhage
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contraindicated during pregnancy
- Not recommended during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed after careful diagnosis
- Pregnancy preclusion prior to treatment
- Concomitant use of progestagen-only pills not recommended
- Endometrial changes may occur
- Patients should be informed about reduced menstrual blood loss
- Use in women with severe asthma is not recommended
Use in Special Populations
- Not recommended in severe hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for patients with moderate and severe renal impairment
