Description

  • Cardovan Plus is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It contains Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide which act as an angiotensin II receptor blocker and a thiazide diuretic, respectively. The medication helps in dilating blood vessels, reducing blood pressure, and increasing the excretion of sodium and chloride.

Dosage and Administration

  • Recommended dosage for hypertension: Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide combination once daily. Maximum allowed dose of Valsartan is 320 mg in combination with hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg. No initial dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.

Interaction

  • Possible interactions with diuretics, agents increasing serum potassium, lithium salts, Warfarin, Digoxin, alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetic drugs, other antihypertensive drugs, cholestyramine, and colestipol resins.

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of this product, and in patients with anuria or hypersensitivity to other sulfonamide-derived drugs.

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Not to be used in pregnancy, especially in 2nd and 3rd trimester. It is not known whether Valsartan is excreted in human milk. Hydrochlorothiazide is excreted in breast milk.

Precautions and Warnings
