Indications
- Treatment of mild, moderate or severe heart failure
- Reduction of cardiovascular death
- Use in patients unable to tolerate ACE inhibitor
Pharmacology
- Non-selective antagonism of β-adrenergic receptors
- Antiproliferative properties
- Scavenger of reactive free oxidant radicals
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 12.5 mg in hypertension
- Recommended dosage of 25 mg twice daily in angina pectoris
- Dose titration in heart failure
Interaction
- Increased levels of digoxin when taken together
- Pretreatment with rifampin resulted in decreased Cmax and AUC
- No alteration in in vitro plasma protein binding of warfarin
Contraindications
- Decompensated heart failure requiring intravenous inotropic therapy
- Bronchial asthma or related bronchospastic conditions
- Second or third-degree AV block

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Take caution in hepatic impairment
- Monitor clinical status after initiation and increasing dose
