- Benzimidazole anthelmintic
- Active against most nematodes and some cestodes
- Used in the treatment of intestinal nematode infections
- Used in higher doses in the treatment of hydatid disease
- Vermicidal, ovicidal, and larvicidal activity
- Inhibitory effect on tubulin polymerization
- Binds and inhibits parasite tubulin polymerization
- Treatment of single and mixed infestations of various parasites including hookworm, roundworm, threadworm, whipworm, strongyloides, tapeworm, opisthorchi, and hydatid
- May be effective against Ancylostoma, Necator, Ascaris, Enterobius, Trichuris, and other nematodes
- Broad-spectrum anthelmintic
- Exhibits vermicidal, ovicidal, and larvicidal activities
- Blocks glucose uptake in susceptible helminths
- Depletes energy levels in helminths
- Exerts anthelmintic effect by inhibiting parasite tubulin polymerization
- Recommended dosage for adults and children over 2 years
- Different dosages for specific parasites like Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, strongyloidiasis, taeniasis, and hydatid disease
- Alternative dosage for children of 1-2 years
- Not recommended for children under 1 year
- Specific dosages for hydatid disease, cystic echinococcosis, alveolar echinococcosis, and giardiasis
- No reported pharmacodynamic or pharmacokinetic interactions
- Not normally used in neonates
- Possible reduction of dose in children weighing less than 10 kg
- Not recommended for pregnant women
- No evidence of dose alteration needed in renal, hepatic, or cardiac failure
- Gastrointestinal disturbances

- Blood disorders including leucopenia and pancytopenia

- Blood counts and liver function tests required before and during treatment
- Caution during breastfeeding
- Exclude pregnancy before starting treatment
- Constant medical supervision needed in the treatment of echinococcosis
