Indications
- Reduces elevated total cholesterol levels
- Reduces LDL cholesterol levels in familial hypercholesterolaemia
- Reduces elevated cholesterol and triglycerides in mixed dyslipidemia
- Treats hypertriglyceridaemia and dysbetalipoproteinaemia
- Reduces cardiac ischaemic events in coronary artery disease
- Lowers cholesterol levels associated with diabetes mellitus or renal transplantation
Pharmacology
- Mode of Action: Selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Absorption: Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Distribution: 98% bound to plasma proteins
- Metabolism: Extensively metabolized to active metabolites by cytochrome P450 3A4
- Excretion: Eliminated primarily in bile
Dosage & Administration
- Adults usual dose: 10 mg, max. 80 mg once daily
- Children (10-18 years) usual dose: Initially 10 mg, max. 20 mg once daily

Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent use of certain drugs

- Hepatic Insufficiency: Markedly increased plasma concentrations in chronic alcoholic liver disease
