Description

Cpzith 200 mg/5 ml Suspension is indicated for infections in lower respiratory tract, upper respiratory tract, otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. It is well absorbed and reaches high concentrations in infected tissues due to active transport. Azithromycin has a prolonged half-life, allowing for a large single dose while maintaining bacteriostatic levels. It is active against various aerobic and facultative gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, chlamydia, mycoplasma, and others. The oral dosage for adults is 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days or 500 mg once on day 1 followed by 250 mg once on days 2-5, while for children the dosage varies based on body weight. Azithromycin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Caution is advised in co-administration with antacids, carbamazepine, cyclosporine, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, and terfenadine. Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to it or any other macrolide antibiotic, and in co-administration with ergot derivatives. Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues, allergic reactions, reversible liver enzyme elevations, and hearing impairment in prolonged high-dose use. It is classified as Pregnancy Category B, and caution is advised during lactation. Caution is also advised in renal impairment and is contraindicated in hepatic impairment. There is no data on overdose effects, and storage should be in a dry place away from light and heat, out of the reach of children.
