Indications

  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Otitis media
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Non-gonococcal urethritis
  • Cervicitis
  • Chlamydia trachomatis

Pharmacology

  • Time to peak concentration: 2.1 to 3.2 hours
  • High concentration in phagocytes
  • Half-life: 68 hours
  • Biliary excretion as major route of elimination

Dosage

  • Adult oral dose: 500 mg once daily for 3 days
  • Children's dose based on body weight
  • Azithromycin injection for IV infusion only

Administration

  • Suspension reconstitution procedure
  • Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal

Interaction

  • Antacid interaction
  • Cyclosporin interference
  • Digoxin metabolism impairment
  • Ergot derivatives contraindication

Contraindications
