Mode of Action
- Blocks glucose uptake in helminths
- Depletes energy level in helminths
- Immobilizes parasites
- Inhibits parasite tubulin polymerization
- Extensively metabolized in the liver
- Anthelmintic activity of metabolites
- Excretion in urine
Dosage & Administration
- 400 mg single dose for various infestations in adults and children over 2 years
- 200 mg single dose for children of 1-2 years
- Not recommended for children under 1 year
- 400 mg twice daily for 28 days in hydatid disease for patients over 60 kg
- 15 mg/kg body weight daily in hydatid disease for patients under 60 kg
- 400 mg once daily for five days in giardiasis
Interaction

Contraindications
- Not normally used in neonates
- Reduction of dose in children weighing less than 10 kg
- Avoid in pregnancy and lactation
- No dosage alteration needed in renal, hepatic or cardiac failure
