Pharmacology
- Selective beta1-blocker
- Reduction of agonistic effect on the heart of catecholamines

- Interference with the cardiovascular response to hypoglycemia
Dosage & Administration
- Total daily dosage of 100-400 mg for hypertension
- Initial dosage of 50-100 mg for angina pectoris
- Dosage up to 300 mg per day for cardiac arrhythmias
- Dosage regimen for hyperthyroidism
- Therapy commencement for myocardial infarction
- Usual initial dosage of 25-100 mg for extended-release tablet
- IV Injection dosage for arrhythmias, surgery, and myocardial infarction
Interaction
- Additive effect with catecholamine-depleting drugs
- Increase in Selomet concentration with CYP2D6 inhibiting drugs
- Increased risk of bradycardia with concomitant use of digitalis glycosides and beta-blockers
- Exacerbation of rebound hypertension with beta-blockers withdrawal of clonidine

- Known hypersensitivity to Metoprolol or other B-blockers
