Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia caused by Klebsiella spp.
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
- Good stability to bacterial β-lactamase
Dosage
- 250 mg b.i.d. for 5-10 days for Pharyngitis/tonsillitis in adolescents and adults
- 500 mg b.i.d. for 10 days for Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis in adults
- 750 mg three times daily by IM or IV injection for adults in severe infections
Administration
Use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended.

No potentially hazardous interactions reported.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins.
Side Effects
- Adverse effects have been generally mild and transient in nature
- Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category B drug. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
Precautions & Warnings
- Given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- May be given safely to patients hypersensitive to penicillin with caution

Reconstitution
- For 750 mg intramuscular injection: Add 3 ml water for injection to vial and shake gently for dispersion
- For 1.5 g intravenous injection: Add 16 ml Water for injection to vial and shake gently for dispersion
