Description
Gimrox is a second generation Cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections.
Indications
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia
- Skin and skin-structure infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Gonorrhea
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans)
Pharmacology
Cefuroxime is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic with good stability to bacterial β-lactamase.
Dosage

- Parenteral:
- Adult: 750 mg three times daily by IM or IV injection
- Children: 30 - 100 mg/kg/day given in 3 or 4 equally divided doses
- Neonate: 30 - 100 mg/kg/day given in 2 or 3 equally divided doses
Administration
Freshly reconstituted solution is recommended; maintains potency for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5°C.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins.

Use with care in patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics & those with a history of colitis; cross reactions with penicillin hypersensitivity have been reported.
