Description
Lidocef is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic used to treat infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Indications
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
Cephradine is a semisynthetic broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
Dosage & Administration
- For oral administration - Adults:
- Urinary tract infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- For oral administration - Children:
- Otitis media
- Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm
- For injectable administration - Adult: Usual dose is 2-4 gm daily in four equally divided doses up to 8 gm daily
- For injectable administration - Children: Dose is 50-100 mg/kg daily in four equally divided doses
Interaction
Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs may increase the risk of kidney damage. Diuretics and probenecid enhance the possibility of renal toxicity.
Contraindications
Cephradine should not be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in the development of superinfection
- Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- May cause a false positive urine glucose result
- Dosage adjustment is necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose
Use in Special Populations
Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment and on haemodialysis
Overdose Effects
Non-specific symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gastric upsets
