Indications
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria cell wall
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Usage in elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
Interaction
- Risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
- Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Gastro-intestinal disturbances
- Hypersensitivity phenomena
- Possible blood disorders, immune system disorders, psychiatric disorders, nervous system disorders, hepatobiliary disorders, renal and urinary disorders
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal studies do not show teratogenicity
- Excreted in breast milk
- Caution advised in lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of superinfection from prolonged use
- Administered with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- May cause false positive urine glucose result
- Dosage adjustment needed in renal impairment
- Contains lactose - caution in patients with specific hereditary problems

Overdose Effects
