Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: Urinary tract infections - 500mg four times daily or 1g twice daily
  • Children: Total daily dose of 25 to 50mg/kg given in two or four equally divided doses
  • Elderly: Normal adult dose is appropriate; dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
  • Injectable administration: Adults - 2-4 gm daily in four equally divided doses up to 8 gm daily; Children - 50-100 mg/kg daily in four equally divided doses

Interaction

Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs may increase the risk of kidney damage

Overdose Effects

  • Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
