Acetor 25 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Mild-to-moderate hypertension
• Severe hypertension
• Congestive heart failure

Pharmacology

• Competitive inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE)
• Decreased levels of angiotensin II
• Increased plasma renin activity
• Decreased aldosterone secretion
• Rapid absorption from the GI tract
• Renal excretion of unchanged drug and metabolites

Dosage & Administration

• Initial dose of 12.5 mg twice daily for mild-to-moderate hypertension
• Usual maintenance dose of 25mg twice daily for mild-to-moderate hypertension
• Initial dose of 12.5 mg b.d. for severe hypertension
• Starting dose of 6.25mg or 12.5mg for heart failure
• Maximum dose of 50 mg twice daily for mild-to-moderate hypertension
• Maximum dose of 50 mg t.d.s for severe hypertension
• Maximum dose of 150 mg daily for heart failure
• Administration 1 hour before meals
• No established safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients

Interaction

Do not coadminister aliskiren with the medication in patients with diabetes. Monitor renal function periodically.

Contraindications

• Previous hypersensitivity to captopril
• Contra-indicated in pregnancy
• Not for use in women of child-bearing potential without effective contraception

• Pruritic rashes
• Gastric irritation
• Abdominal pain

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Assessment of renal function before therapy
• Monitoring renal function at appropriate intervals
• Avoid use in patients with renal impairment
• Avoid use in patients with aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction
