Pharmacology
- Inhibition of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE)
- Suppression of renin-angiotensin aldosterone system
- Stimulation of aldosterone secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dosage of 5 mg for hypertension
- Initial dosage of 2.5 mg for heart failure
- Usual maintenance dosage of 10-20 mg for hypertension
- Maximum dosage of 40 mg for severe hypertension
- Usual maintenance dosage of 20 mg for heart failure
Interaction
- Combination with other antihypertensive agents
- Increased antihypertensive efficacy with b blockers, Methyldopa, calcium antagonists, and diuretics
- Careful supervision with adrenergic blocking drugs
- Reduced bioavailability with concomitant Propranolol
- Increased serum Lithium concentration with concomitant Lithium therapy

- Aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction
- Renovascular disease
- Severe resistant hypertension
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Generalized atherosclerosis
