Description
Rovator 5 mg Tablet is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor drug which is helpful in lowering the cholesterol level and triglycerides in the body.
Indications
- Treatment of primary hyperlipidemia
- Treatment of mixed dyslipidemia
- Adjunct to diet for reducing elevated total-C, LDL-C, ApoB, non HDL-C and TG levels
- Increasing HDL-C levels
- Adjunct to diet for patients with hypertriglyceredemia
- Treatment of primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH)
- Slowing the progression of atherosclerosis
- Pediatric treatment of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH)
- Risk reduction of Myocardial Infarction (MI), stroke, and arterial revascularization procedures in high-risk patients
Pharmacology
Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, which increases hepatic LDL receptors and inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL.
Dosage and administration
- Usual dose range of 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose is 20 mg/day
- Special dosing considerations for pediatric patients, very high cholesterol and high risk of MI or stroke, homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, Asian patients, and patients with severe renal impairment
Interaction
- Cyclosporine increases exposure, dose limitation to 5 mg once daily
- Gemfibrosil combination should be avoided, dose limitation to 10 mg once daily if used together
- Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir increases exposure, dose limitation to 10 mg once daily
- Coumarin anticoagulants combination prolongs international normalized ratio (INR)
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies may increase risk of skeletal muscle effects

Pregnancy and lactation
- Should be administered to women of childbearing age only when conception is highly unlikely

Precautions and warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain lipid-lowering therapies
- Temporary withholding in patients with acute, serious conditions suggestive of myopathy or predisposing to renal failure
- Liver enzyme tests recommended before initiation of therapy and periodically thereafter
