Description
- Oxofyline is a medication used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component.
Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Novel bronchodilator
- Selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor
- Inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF) and leukotriene production
- Decreased affinity towards adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
Dosage administration
- Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (>12 years): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (6-12 years): 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- Doxophylline SR tablet for required daily dose of 400 mg
Interaction
- Avoid administration with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Exercise caution with sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, etc., may affect hepatic clearance
- Concurrent administration with phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may alter clearance
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- Lactating women

Pregnancy lactation
- Use during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully on risk-benefit ratio
- Contraindicated during lactation
- Animal tests show no interference with pre and postnatal growth
Precautions warnings
- Factors reducing hepatic clearance may increase plasma levels
- Caution in cardiac disease, hypertension, elderly, severe hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, renal impairment
- Monitor blood drug levels in case of influencing factors

- Severe cardiac arrhythmias
- Tonic-clonic seizure
- Symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse required
