Indications
- Acute and chronic psychoses

Pharmacology
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- No affinity for cholinergic receptors
- Balanced central serotonin and dopamine antagonism
- Reduces extrapyramidal side effect liability
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose range of 2-4 mg daily
- Usual dose range 4-6 mg daily
- Elderly dosage adjustment
- Not recommended for children under 15 years
- Step-wise dose increment for mania and schizophrenia
Interaction
- May antagonize the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduction of plasma clearance when administered with Carbamazepine and Clozapine
- Enhancement of certain antihypertensives' effects
