Indications
- Acute and chronic psychoses

Pharmacology
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- Dopamine antagonist
- Centrally balanced serotonin and dopamine antagonism
- Reduces extrapyramidal side effect liability
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses on 1st day
- Usual dose range 4-6 mg daily
- Titration appropriate in some patients
- Maximum dose of 16 mg daily
- Dosage adjustments at intervals of not less than 1 week
Interaction
- May antagonize effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduces plasma clearance of Residon with Carbamazepine
- Decreases the clearance of Residon with Clozapine
- Enhances effects of certain antihypertensives

- Women receiving Risperidone should not breastfeed

- Preexisting cardiovascular diseases
- Discontinue if signs of tardive dyskinesia occur
