Pharmacology

  • Proton pump inhibitor
  • Suppresses gastric acid secretion
  • First single optical isomer of proton pump inhibitor
  • Better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors

  • Metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzyme system

Dosage

  • 20 mg or 40 mg oral dosage for healing of erosive esophagitis
  • 20 mg oral dosage for maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
  • 20 mg oral dosage for symptomatic GERD
  • 40 mg oral dosage for Helicobacter pylori eradication
  • 20-80 mg oral dosage for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • 20-40 mg oral dosage for acid-related Dyspepsia
  • 20 mg oral dosage for Duodenal ulcer
  • 20-40 mg oral dosage for Gastric ulcer
  • IV Injection or IV infusion dosages for various conditions

Administration

  • Tablet or capsule should be swallowed whole and taken one hour before a meal
  • Instructions for oral suspension administration

Interaction

  • Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
  • No clinically relevant interactions with specific drugs
  • Potential interference with CYP2C19
  • No change in the pharmacokinetic profile with co-administration of certain drugs

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation
