Pharmacology

Proton Pump Inhibitor: Suppresses gastric acid secretion
Absorption: Peak plasma levels occur at approximately 1.5 hours
Distribution: 97% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism: Extensively metabolized in the liver
Excretion: Plasma elimination half-life of approximately 1–1.5 hours

Dosage

Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks
Maintenance of Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg Once Daily
Symptomatic GERD: 20 mg Once Daily for 4 Weeks
Helicobacter Pylori eradication: Triple Therapy for 10 days
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 20-80 mg once daily
Acid-related Dyspepsia: 20-40 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks
Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks, Gastric Ulcer: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks

Administration

Tablet or Capsule: Swallowed whole, taken one hour before a meal
Oral Suspension: Mixed with water and taken immediately
IV Injection: Administrated intravenously over a period of at least 3 minutes

Interaction

Metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
No clinically relevant interactions with certain drugs
May interfere with the absorption of drugs where gastric pH is important

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation
