Indications
- Treatment of endometriosis
- Reduction of pelvic pain
- Reduction of growth effect of estrogen on endometrium
Pharmacology
- Acts as an agonist at the progesterone receptor
- Promotes antiproliferative effects on endometrial tissue
- Reduces endogenous production of estradiol
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage of 2 mg daily
- Tablet-taking can be started on any day of the menstrual cycle
- Continuous administration without break
Interaction
- Metabolized mainly by cytochrome P450 3A4 system
- CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase plasma levels of progestogens
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dienogest
- Active venous thromboembolic disorder
- Arterial and cardiovascular disease
