Indications
- Improves glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus
Composition
- Each ml suspension contains 100 IU (equivalent to 3.50 mg) Insulin Aspart (rDNA) BP as 30% soluble Insulin Aspart and 70% protamine-crystallised Insulin Aspart
Description
- Blood glucose lowering agent with an earlier onset and an intermediate duration of action
- Homologous with regular human insulin with a single amino acid substitution
- Produced by recombinant DNA technology
Pharmacology
- Primary activity is the regulation of glucose metabolism
- Binds to insulin receptors on muscle and fat cells
- Lowers blood glucose by facilitating cellular uptake of glucose and inhibiting glucose output from the liver
Dosage
- Individual and determined by the physician
- Can be given in mono therapy or in combination with oral antidiabetic drugs
- Recommended starting dose for type 2 diabetes is 6 IU at breakfast and 6 IU at dinner
- Dose not to be increased if hypoglycemia occurred within three days
Administration
- Administer 5-10 min before meal
Interaction
- Certain drugs may require dose adjustment
- Substances that may reduce or increase insulin requirements
Contraindications
- During episodes of hypoglycemia
- In patients with hypersensitivity to Insulin Aspart or its excipients

Pregnancy & Lactation

- No restrictions on treatment during lactation

- Modification of regimens should be cautious and under medical supervision
Use in Special Populations
- Renal Impairment may require decreased dose
- Hepatic Impairment may require decreased dose
Overdose Effects
- Hypoglycemia may develop over sequential stages
- Mild hypoglycemic episodes can be treated by oral administration of glucose
- Severe hypoglycemic episodes can be treated by glucagon given intramuscularly or subcutaneously
