Description

  • Oral suspension for the relief of symptoms associated with gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and flatulence

Pharmacology

  • Combination of two antacids (Calcium carbonate and Sodium bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium alginate)
  • Works by neutralizing excess stomach acid and forming a protective barrier over the stomach contents

DosageAdministration

  • Adult and children over 12 years: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
  • Children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
  • Chewable Tablet: 2-4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day for adults and children over 12 years
  • Not recommended for children under 6 years
  • No dose modifications necessary for elderly
  • Chewable tablets for children under 12 years should be given only on medical advice

Interaction

  • Consider a time-interval of 2 hours between Gavisol intake and the administration of certain other medicinal products

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or excipients

  • Possible side effects include constipation, flatulence, stomach cramps, belching, and a sensation of swelling if a large dose is taken

  • Considerations for sodium content, hypercalcaemia, and aspartame content
  • Gavisol can mask symptoms of underlying medical conditions and should not be used in patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and hypophosphatemia
