Description
- Combination of two antacids and an alginate
- Used to treat gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, flatulence associated with gastric reflux
- Physical mode of action, does not depend on absorption into the systemic circulation
- Rapidly reacts with gastric acid to form a raft of Alginic Acid gel with a near neutral pH
- Studies have shown that the raft interacts with and caps the acid pocket in the stomach, reducing esophageal acid exposure
- Forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents to soothe the burning pain in the chest
- Interacts with bile and pepsin, protecting the esophagus from these gastric components
- Neutralizes excess stomach acid to relieve pain and discomfort
- Provides fast relief from indigestion and heartburn
- Contains calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium alginate
- Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if clinically needed
- No effect on human fertility
- Recommended dosages for adults, children over 12 years, children 6 to 12 years, and elderly
- Dose adjustments not necessary for hepatic impairment, caution in case of highly restricted salt diet for renal insufficiency
- Contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or excipients
- Potential interaction with various medicinal products, should be administered 2 hours apart
- Possible side effects include constipation, flatulence, stomach cramps, or belching
- Symptomatic treatment recommended in cases of overdose
- High sodium and calcium content to be considered for patients with specific conditions
