Composition
- Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium
- Vitamin D3 BP (as Cholecalciferol) 200 IU
- Magnesium Oxide BP equivalent to 40 mg Magnesium
- Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate BP equivalent to 1.8 mg Manganese
- Cupric Oxide equivalent to 1 mg Copper
- Boron Citrate equivalent to 250 mcg Boron
- Zinc Oxide BP equivalent to 7.5 mg Zinc
Pharmacology
Importance of nutrition in preventing osteoporosis and bone-related diseases
Dosage & Administration
- Adult: 1 film-coated tablet twice daily
- Preferably 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening
- Best taken with or just after main meals with a full glass of water
- Children 3-7 years: 1 effervescent tablet daily
- 7 years to older: 1 to 2 effervescent tablets daily
Interaction
- Risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics
- Hypocalcaemia in digitalized patients
- Reduced absorption of calcium with certain foods
- Decreased Vitamin-D3 effect with phenytoin or barbiturates
- Decreased effect of Vitamin D3 with glucocorticoids
- Reduced absorption of various medications with calcium
Contraindications
- Hypercalcaemia resulting from malignant bone disease
- Sarcoidosis
- Primary hyperparathyroidism
- Vitamin-D 3 overdosage
- Severe renal failure
- Hypersensitivity to any tablet ingredients
- Relative contraindications such as renal stones and severe hypercalciuria
Side Effects
- Mild gastro-intestinal disturbances
- Constipation
- Flatulence
- Nausea
- Gastric pain
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash from vitamin-D3 supplements
- Hypercalciuria and rare cases of hypercalcaemia with long-term high-dose treatment
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Increased calcium and vitamin-D3 requirements
- Overdoses of vitamin-D3 can have teratogenic effects
- Passage of vitamin-D3 and metabolites into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Careful supervision for mild to moderate renal failure
- Periodic checks of plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion
- Measurement of urinary calcium excretion in patients with a history of renal stones
- Monitoring of serum and urinary calcium levels and kidney function with long-term treatment
- Reduction and temporary cessation of treatment if urinary calcium exceeds 7.5 mmol/24 hours
Overdose Effects
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, stomach cramps, diarrhea, headache, and constipation
