Indications

Pharmacology

• Glucosamine as fundamental building block for biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans
• Chondroitin Sulfate acts as substrate for proteoglycans
• Synergistic effect of combining Glucosamine with Chondroitin Sulfate
• Effective in severe cases of Osteoarthritis
• As effective as NSAIDs with better tolerability and clinical compliance
• Helpful during repair phase of musculo-skeletal soft tissue injuries

Dosage & Administration

• 250/200 mg tablet: 1-2 tablets, three times daily
• Dose may be adjusted according to response and body weight
• Typical dosage recommendations based on body weight
• 750/600 mg tablet: 1 tablet two times daily or as directed by the physician

Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported with various medications
• Chondroitin may enhance blood thinning effects of anticoagulants like Warfarin, Heparin

Contraindications

• No known contraindications
• Proven hypersensitivity to Glucosamine and Chondroitin is a contraindication

Side Effects

• Safety studies show no demonstrable side effects
• Rarely occurring side effects, such as mild and reversible intestinal flatulence, are almost like placebo

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not supplement with Glucosamine Sulfate or Chondroitin Sulfate

• Caution and medical advice needed during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Patients with Diabetes Mellitus advised to monitor blood glucose levels
• No special studies in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
• Administration to patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency should be under medical supervision
• Children should not be supplemented with Glucosamine and Chondroitin
