Indications

  • Treatment of single infection or mixed infections
  • Treatment of infections resistant to other antibiotics

Pharmacology

  • Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
  • Broad spectrum activity
  • Activity against gram negative and positive aerobic bacteria
  • Bactericidal action
  • Interference with DNA gyrase enzyme
  • Rapid and well absorption from G.I. tract
  • Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
  • About 3.5 hours half-life
  • Excretion in urine

Dosage

  • Dosage determined by severity, type, and sensitivity of infection
  • Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
  • Specific dosages for different types of infections
  • Dosage adjustments for impaired renal function
  • No dosage adjustment for the elderly
  • Use not recommended for children with arthropathy risk
  • Duration of treatment based on severity and clinical response

Overdose Effects
