Description
- Doxoven is a medicine used to treat bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component. It contains doxophylline, a bronchodilator that selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has a better safety profile compared to Theophylline. The recommended dosage for adults is 400 mg tablet two or three times daily, and for children is based on their age and body weight. Doxoven should not be administered with other xanthine preparations, and caution should be exercised with certain drugs. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives, as well as in patients with acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation. Adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, headache, tachycardia, and in rare cases, hyperglycemia or albuminuria.
