Description

Esomeprazole MUPS 40 mg tablet for treatment of GERD, gastric ulcer, H. pylori eradication, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Indications

  • Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
  • Risk reduction in NSAID associated gastric ulcer
  • H. pylori eradication (Triple therapy)
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion

Composition

  • 20 mg Tablet
  • 40 mg Tablet
  • Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate USP

Pharmacology

Inhibits gastric acid by blocking the proton pump of the gastric parietal cell. Effective for short-term treatment of ulcers.

Dosage

  • Erosive esophagitis
  • Maintenance of healing
  • H. pylori eradication
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  • Children's dosage

Administration

Tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid. Can be dispersed in water if necessary.

Interaction

  • Metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
  • Potential interference with CYP2C19
  • No clinically significant interactions with certain drugs
  • Combination therapy with clarithromycin

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

Pregnancy and lactation

Caution advised, unknown if Esomeprazole or its metabolites appear in human breast milk
