Indications
- Treatment of eye infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
- Prevention of inflammation and bacterial infection after eye surgery
Composition
- Each ml contains Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Moxifloxacin 5 mg
- Each ml contains Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate USP equivalent to Dexamethasone Phosphate 1 mg
Pharmacology
- Moxifloxacin inhibits topoisomerase II and topoisomerase IV
- Dexamethasone is anti-allergic, anti-exudative and anti-proliferative
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop, 4 times a day, from 1 day before surgery until 15 days after surgery
- Instill the medication immediately after cataract surgery
- Instill the medication at least 15 minutes after LASIK refractive surgery
- Instill 1 drop, 4 times a day for up to 7 days in eye infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to quinolones or any components of the product
- Glaucoma and/or ocular disease causing thinning of the cornea or sclera
- Inflammation in the eye caused by virus, fungi or mycobacteria
- Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia, varicella, and other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
- Mycobacterial infection of the eye
- Fungal diseases of ocular structures
Side Effects
- Moxifloxacin: Conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye, keratitis, ocular discomfort
- Dexamethasone: Visual acuity & field defects, cataract formation, secondary ocular infection, perforation of the globe
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Caution advised when used in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Discontinue use if allergic reaction occurs
- Prolonged steroid use may result in ocular hypertension and/or glaucoma
- Routine evaluation of intraocular pressure is necessary
- Topical corticosteroids may cause perforations in diseases causing thinning of the cornea or sclera
- Steroids may mask or enhance existing infection in acute purulent conditions of the eye
Use in Special Populations
- No change in dosage is required in elderly patients
- Efficacy and safety in pediatric patients not established
