Composition
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology
- Adequate Calcium in the blood is vital for bodily functions
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption from GI tract and stimulates bone formation
- Clinical studies show synergistic effects of Calcium and vitamin D on bone growth, Osteoporosis, and fracture prevention
- Coral Calcium sourced from coral origin has similar chemical structure to human bone
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium from GI tract and maintaining Calcium balance
Dosage & administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally. Stir the solution with a spoon before drinking
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Simultaneous treatment using ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Patients should not take calcium products within two hours of eating foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses of calcium and vitamin D should be avoided during pregnancy
- No indications of teratogenicity in humans for Vitamin D at therapeutic doses
- Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk
Precautions & warnings
- Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function
- Caution in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Monitoring serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion in patients with sarcoidosis
- Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis due to increased risk of hypercalcaemia
- Consideration of dose adjustment when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Additional doses of calcium or vitamin D should be taken under close medical supervision
Overdose effects
- Hypervitaminosis D
- Hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, and death
- Treatment includes discontinuation of calcium and other implicated drugs, rehydration, and monitoring of electrolytes and renal function
