Composition

  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
  • Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
  • Taking with full stomach for better absorption

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Ion exchange resins & laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
  • Calcium carbonate may interfere with tetracycline absorption
  • Hypercalcaemia increases toxicity of cardiac glycosides
  • Bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride reduces calcium tablet absorption
  • Oxalic acid & phytic acid inhibits calcium absorption

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the component
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No indication of teratogenicity in humans
  • Vitamin D and Calcium pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitor serum calcium levels during long-term treatment
  • Renal function monitoring in elderly patients on concomitant treatment
  • Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
  • Consider soft tissue calcification risk
  • Use caution in patients with severe renal insufficiency or sarcoidosis
  • Caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis
  • Consider dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
  • Additional doses under close medical supervision

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
  • Symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias
  • May lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
  • Discontinue calcium treatment and other drugs, stomach emptying, rehydration, serum electrolytes monitoring
