Composition
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology
- Adequate Calcium for bodily functions
- Vitamin D for healthy bones & Calcium absorption
- Stimulates bone formation
- Synergistic effects on bone growth
- Coral Calcium with similar structure to human bone
- Better absorption of Coral Calcium
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption & Calcium balance
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Taking with full stomach for better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins & laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with tetracycline absorption
- Hypercalcaemia increases toxicity of cardiac glycosides
- Bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride reduces calcium tablet absorption
- Oxalic acid & phytic acid inhibits calcium absorption
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
Side Effects
- Orally administered Calcium may irritate GI tract
- May cause constipation
- Rarely produces hypercalcemia
- Allergic reactions
- Irregular heartbeats
- Nausea

- Decreased appetite

- Drowsiness

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake limits during pregnancy
- Reproductive toxicity with high dose of vitamin D in animals
- Avoid overdoses as it relates to adverse effects on the foetus
- No indication of teratogenicity in humans
- Vitamin D and Calcium pass into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor serum calcium levels during long-term treatment
- Renal function monitoring in elderly patients on concomitant treatment
- Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Consider soft tissue calcification risk
- Use caution in patients with severe renal insufficiency or sarcoidosis
- Caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis
- Consider dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Additional doses under close medical supervision
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias
- May lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Discontinue calcium treatment and other drugs, stomach emptying, rehydration, serum electrolytes monitoring
