Indications

  • Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
  • Adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
  • Akinetic and myoclonic seizures
  • Absence seizures

Pharmacology

  • Exhibits anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing, and anxiolytic effects
  • Enhances GABAergic neurotransmission at inhibitory synapses
  • Rapidly suppresses various types of paroxysmal activity including seizures

DosageAdministration

  • Initial dose for adults with seizure disorders should not exceed 1.5 mg/day
  • Initial dose for adults with panic disorder is 0.25 mg
  • Pediatric dose should be between 0.01 and 0.03 mg/kg/day
  • Injection dosage varies for infants, children, and adults

Interaction

  • Does not alter the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital
  • Effect on the metabolism of other drugs has not been investigated

Contraindications

  • History of hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
  • Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
  • Acute narrow angle glaucoma
